Just back from his last trip to China and a visit to the Black Cat plant in Hancheng City, Shaanxi province, Karl-Heinz Teschke, Managing Director of LUVOMAXX® at Lehmann&Voss&Co. KG, reports on the commissioning of an eighth carbon black plant by his company’s partner JiangXi Black Cat.
The new plant in Jining in Shandong province is to commence production in mid-March 2014 initially with two lines each producing 40 kt of reinforcing furnace black. An additional line for reinforcing and another for semi-reinforcing carbon blacks are set to be added by the end of 2014. When investment is complete, the plan is to operate a total of four lines at 40 kt of active carbon black and one line at 40 kt of semi-active carbon black, giving a total capacity of 200,000 t. The largest manufacturer of furnace black in China will then have an overall capacity of 1.09 million tonnes and should therefore occupy at least the number four position in the world rankings.
At the same time, a refinery for approx. 300 kt of coal tar oil is being created. Together with local supply opportunities for natural gas, this will ensure a secure source of high-grade feedstock and process gas.
Thanks to this investment by its partner JiangXi Black Cat, Lehmann&Voss&Co. KG will thus be able to offer high reliability of supply and constant quality in the long term as well.
